Blog
This weeks blog is by Ethan and George.
On Monday we did maths and went straight into celebration assembly. This week there were lots of achievements, such as: the swimming team won the swimming gala on Saturday, the chess team won the chess tournament on Friday, Ethan won a triathlon with scouts and there were also lots more achievements. After play we did E.R.I.C and following that we did a science assessment to find out our level on our topic, which was adaptions of plants and animals. Later on we continued with our tessellating shapes in art.
We decided on a pebble treat and our decision was we can go to the park.
Achievements:
Star of the week: Hannah.H
Writer of the week: Tom.J
Shining star: Josh.C
Our school also entered a writing competition. The piece of work we wrote had to begin with it was a dark and stormy night. The winner from year 6 was Abbie and her piece of work got sent off to the competition hoping that it would be the best.
On Tuesday we started off with a class assembly it was very amusing and it linked to our R.E. After that we did R.E we were learning the Easter story in detail as well as similarities with the story of Mosses.
After play we did some punctuation in SPAG. We were learning how to use semi-colons.
After lunch we did French where we were learning how to say what year we were born in. Following that we did music in which we were given a picture and we had to compose a piece of music which made our listeners feel a certain way. So if you wanted a calm piece of music you would have a high pitch and a fast tempo. Where as if you wanted a scary piece of music you would do the opposite of that.
On Wednesday we started of with maths it was very fun, after that we did literacy and then after lunch we did I.C.T. Where we were working on spread sheets. Then we did P.E. in which we did some hockey.
On Thursday some of the year 6 children went to Shenley school where they did some maths. While they were doing that the children in school were doing some work on ratio and also some improvement of our writing. In the afternoon, some of us painted our hard boiled eggs, after studying about Faberge eggs.
On the last day of term, we went to Longacres park as part of our pebble teat. When we came back to school, we had our lunch and had our assembly to say farewell to Mrs Reynolds. We will miss her lots!!

Star of the week: Jacob
Poem of the week: A wintry night - chosen by Georgia
Word of the week: Melodious - chosen by Georgia
Birthdays: George
In art this week we were focusing on optical illusions and tessellating patterns. This was very fun as we got to cut out shapes that would tessellate and draw around them. We focused on a shape like a hexagon, which had a shape that it changed into, and then we tried to transform it into a tessellating pattern.
In R.E. we were learning about drugs. We learned that not all drugs were bad as there are drugs in chocolate and coca-cola called caffeine. We also learned that most medicines were drugs as well.
In Mr. Edwards maths group, we are learning about pie charts and how to draw them.
In Miss Fowler's maths group, we are learning about different measurements.
In Mrs Gilder's maths group we are learning about measuring in litres and millilitres.
In science we are doing an experiment to see which plant survives with different elements like milk, or in a dark place, or with no water.
In P.E. we are learning basic hockey skills and we are also practising our running in the bleep test which is where we have to run the length of the playground within the length of two bleeps.
In I.C.T. we were learning how to use excel spreadsheet. We were finding averages of different football players played.
In literacy we were doing a 100 word challenge which was where we had to write a story with only 100 words BUT we also had to make it about a video that we watched. In the video, the only words were
"At last, Moby! We found it!"
Those were the words that we had to try and include in our story but if we couldn't do that, then we had to have words in there like that. We are also redrafting our 100 word challenges and typing them up on the laptop.
In carousel, we were doing French and music. In French we started a new module called the magic watch. We learnt new words and started the electronic book.
In music we composed our own pieces of music based on a picture called metamorphosis by an artist called Escher.
In geography we are learning about wetlands and the different animals and habitats that decide to make it their home. We are also learning about the farmers that have cattle on the wetlands and how the cattle survive.
Thank you for looking at this weeks blog by Lauren and Jacob.

SATs and SPAG Revision
SATs and SPAG Revision
The Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests are designed to test children’s knowledge and understanding of specific elements of the Key Stage 2 programmes of study. They provide a snapshot of a child’s attainment at the end of the key stage.
English and mathematics tests are taken at the end of Year 6, usually when children are 11-years-old. Level 6 tests are now part of the suite of Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests. These are are optional and are aimed at high attaining children.
At the end of Key Stage 2, teachers assess children’s attainment in English, mathematics and science. These teacher assessment judgements are reported to the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) as well as to parents. This year children will sit a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar test. More information will follow about this test as and when we receive it.
