Freya and lois' blog

We had a great start to the week by mostly everybody getting 10/10 in their spelling test. This continued when we went into our celebration assembly where we were introduced to the sports committee and celebrated lots of birthdays and writer of the week.
Literacy:
We have been learning about persuasive letters and persuasive techniques. We read through a letter about banning play times and boxed it up( putting a box round each paragraph and explaining the purpose.)
Science:
In science we did an experiment on sound.
Here are some examples of the work:

RE: We were learning about advent.Mrs Mainwaring talked to us  Everyone wrote an advent acrostic poem. Here are some examples:

SPAG: In spag we did a spag test (spelling grammar and punctuation.) some people said the test was simple although some people said it was extremely challenging but it was only to practice so your marks didn't matter.

Carousel:
Carousel was a bit different this week as songsters went to practice for their Christmas concert. Despite songsters not being there everyone else did normal carousel. Which was French and P.E.
In pe we are learning about dance and hockey

Willow Class blog by Ethan and George.

Willow class blog by Ethan and George

On Monday we had a celebration assembly where the writer of the week was given out. There were also some celebrations such as: Ethan won 4 tickets to the rugby world cup semi-finals and the final. We also did star of the week for Josh.P.

On Tuesday we went to Linconsfield. We were split into 6 groups and we all did different activities. The activities were: gardening, in the house, a warden's life story, cinema, museum and a school from the olden days. There was also a shop to buy souvenirs. We had to do loads of different chores at the different places, as if we were evacuees.

On Wednesday we did shining star and we were all excited, in the end it turned out to be Josh. He was very lucky and we felt happy for him. Later on in the day we had P.E, it was country dancing Mr Edwards taught us a very tricky dance, the Britannia two step. We had to be light on our feet. In I.C.T we had to use audacity to set a spooky scene. Some of them were very scary/funny. We used a special microphone to do the recording. We had to layer the sounds so it sounded realistic. This was a tricky task so it was a bit of trial and error.

On Thursday we started off with maths. After play we put some more words on the word window, which is describing words on the window. The words that are on there we have to try and use in our work. The best word was perpetual. We then did literacy which is when we had to try and persuade parents to come to our school not the others. This was tricky because we didn’t want to be too silly and make them not come to us.

On Friday we did maths and it was hard. We challenged ourselves as we were doing a new topic. In Mr Edwards' group we were learning to calculate the areas of circles. The play time was fun because there were no ball games so we could do some running around instead. After play we did literacy: it was fun we were learning to edit our work.
After lunch we did science, we were learning about how we hear. It was very interesting. The main part of this  was about vibrations.

Lucy and Sophie's weekly round-up

On Wednesday last week, UKS2 had an evacuation day. The day kicked off with the parents coming to wave us good bye before we were lead by our teachers into the hall. Then, we had to stand in rows and were inspected by Mr Edwards, Mrs Gilder and Miss Fowler. They looked at our fingernails and hair and then told us if they wanted us to go with them.

Miss Fowler’s group were making make do and mend bunting and eggless ration cakes.

Mr Edwards was teaching us how to polish our shoes, clean the windows with vinegar and polish the entire schools cutlery for lunch.

Mrs Williams and Mrs Gilder’s group were milking
cows, digging up a flower bed, designing a dig for victory garden and planting a winter lettuce.

Then we had a V.E party with the bunting, cakes and country dancing at the end of the day. It was really good fun!
Thank you for all the brilliant costumes!!!

Example of Lucy’s writing
The writing of the week:

Mum. That’s all I could think of whilst sitting on the train. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw little Jimmy bending over to be sick. Jimmy’s my brother. He’s only 5 and has a habit of picking his scabs until they scar. I don’t think any one will want him. A sea of pigtails, plaits and hats surrounded me. Suddenly, the train came to a halt. We were there.

P.E
Wednesday:
In P.E, we did some more country dancing. First, we danced to ‘Stripping the willow’ which was great fun! Then we tried a harder dance, which was called "the Gay-Gordons".

I.C.T
Wednesday:
We learnt how to record a sound onto a music program called Audacity 2.02. We used microphones and headphones to help us record and listen back. We also tried changing the pitch to a higher or lower octave.

Literacy
Thursday:
We were planning a piece of writing to do with who we admire. It could be someone famous. This was to help us learn to plan our writing in detail as if we were going to write it. They were really good!!!

History
Thursday:
We were learning about rationing in WW2. We had to put lots of different foods in one of three columns:  Rationed, not rationed or not available. Then, Mr Edwards made some hot chocolate that they had in the Navy. Some of us thought it was lovely, some disgusting!

Willow class blog - A week of learning by Jack and Bradley

In literacy we are learning about  the highway man, the poem
Unfortunately, we are almost at the end of the topic
We acted out the characters from the poem, we thought about their feelings and wrote the story from their point of view
We worked as a class and performed the poem, adding sound effects and actions and then started to write a new ending for the poem.

In history we are learning about world war 2
We are making Anderson shelters, when we’re finished with them we are going to drop bombs on them to see who has made the best one
We have been learning how britain protected themselves from the threat of the Germans.

In science we have been learning about the eye. We learned the different parts of the eye and watched a video of inside someone's eye.

In ICT we are learning about E safety
We learnt that you’re not safe on the other side of the computer.
We were taught how to avoid cyber  bullying and what to do if we see something strange going on.
