In willow class we have been writing news reports about the Aztecs finding their new home ,Tenochtitlan. We have been planing it in our literacy books and then writing it on computers this is Emma's Aztec news report plan .

spelling : In spelling we've been Learning about double t-ed and double d-ed.

Art: In Art we are doing Aztecs weaving and it is really fun! There is two of them as an example. You can make on by getting some different coloured wool and get a piece of card board. Then you cut some rig zag patten on the top and bottom. Secondly you get a colour of wool then you start going under and over the string. 

Topic: In topic  we are doing Aztecs and Buddhism , we learned the 8 fold of What Buddhists believe you could do to make people happy in the world.

Science: In science we are learning about solids, liquids and gases. Also we are learning about dissolving and what makes dissolving happen.We also did a test to see how long sugar takes to dissolve, each table had to change the amount of stirs, sugar and temperature. 

Big write: In big write we had to write about a picture of an abandoned park. We also had to use suspense to try and make it scary.

Birthdays: For birthdays we had Will Robinson ,Zaid Kureshi and Flo Raeyen.

Star of the week is Jason Fong.

Writer of the week goes to Francesca Rich for her fantastic Homework she did, which was a acrostic poem. Mr Edwards quoted that it was an outstanding piece of writing with a highly effective choice of language.

Maths:in maths we have been learning about algebra and linear graphs in Mr Edwards' class and long division, using the bus stop method in Miss Bick and Miss Fowler's group . In a linear graph all the recordings are in a strait line we are using it to record phone bills, we are learning how to use algebra to work out which is the best mobile phone contract.

Journalist Day:

On Journalist day we have been learning about news reports and Journalists. On Wednesday we were dressing up as Journalists but u didn't have to. We were wearing ties and it looked really smart . A news reporter come in to our school,Her name was Martine Croxel. We were talking about The 5 W's and the skills and responsibility to be a Journalists.  After the talk we started to plan are news report.  We got split into groups and then we started sorting out which part we were having in our groups. We started rehearsing in our groups and it was really fun and interesting. when we started are news report we were not allowed to make any mistakes or laugh. Finally we finished all of the news reports and watched them back on Thursday.

Art:      

In art we have been learning about mosaics, we could either do a snake or a face.It was really hard but fun. When they were finished they looked very effective and stood out a lot with the bright colours especially with the yellow and red.

    Spelling:

We are learning in spelling about silent letters and this week its N, P and U. We also have been learning about how to spell them and try ad use them in sentences in our writing. Soon we will be doing a test on the words we have learned.

 

Maths:

In maths we have been  learning to use subtraction column method. We also have been learning how to use decimal subtraction. Also we have been learning about solving problems.

Literacy: 

In literacy we have been learning to find the Orientation, Reorientation, Headline, Caption and the Photo. Below will tell u what they mean.

Reorientation: what's happening right now.

Caption: is the label of the photo, describing it.

Orientation: is a quick summary about what happened.

Headline: is what they are talking about.

Photo: the picture to get a better scene of what happened.

Science: 

In Science we have been learning to about particles. We wrote a story on what we think a perfume particle  would be like, overall I think we did well and everyone wrote good stories.

We have been making gods eyes which is related to the Aztecs. They were made out of 2 lolly sticks and a bit of wool. some people made a gods eye with 3 lolly sticks.

The life of a cupcake by Shelby Greer 

 They put me in the oven to bake.

Mea deprived and miserable cake.

Feeling the heat I started to bubble.

Watching the others I knew I was in trouble.

They opened the door and started my life.

Frosting me with a silver knife.

Decorating me with candy jewels.

The rest of my batch looked like fools.

Lifting me up she took of my wrapper.

Feeling the breeze, I wanted to slap her.

Opening her mouth with shiny teeth inside.

This was the day this cupcake had died. 

Maths:
We are learning binary numbers and we are doing maths tests this week.

Literacy:
We have been studying poems and have recently performed Macavity in Brambles, we each had to create our own poem about an emotion.( E.g. Anger)

Topic:
We have been studying the Aztecs and had to create are very own Aztec flag.

Science:

In science we have been learning about liquids, solids and gases. We did lots of investigations with different materials and have recently learnt what viscosity means.

Big write :

This week we were told to write a poem about smiling, we were only given 25 minutes to complete this instead of 45. We had about 20 minutes to plan, we planned in a smily face using the senses. Here is an example:
 

Football:

Our football referees have been working hard and football has not been as argumentative. The year 6 football team lost 2-1 but Ryan.S scored an amazing goal from the half way line and it went in the top left hand corner.What a goal!

Literacy 

In literacy we have been learning about personification and metaphors. We made our own poems about a feeling. (Eg.anger,joy)

  Maths

  In Miss Bick's maths we have about rounding and place value. Also in Mr Edwards maths group we were learning long division and solving problems. In Miss Fowler's maths group we were learning methods of addition.

 Big write

   In big write we were completing a piece of writing about Skellig and we started with the sentence

"And then I saw him..."

Mr Edwards had to choose between Zaid's piece of work and Hannah's piece of writing and he chose.......   ZAID'S !!!!!!!

It has some wonderful vocabulary and imagery.

Science

     In Science we have been learning about solids liquids and gasses. This week's lesson were studying gasses. We had to pick a gas out of Helium, Nitrous, oxygen, argon and Nitrous oxide. Sam picked Nitrous oxide and William picked Helium. Here is a picture.

Spellings 

    In Spelling we have been learning silent letters and last week we did I before E except after C

and most people got 3/3.

What we have been doing this week!

This week we have really settled in to our new class. It has been great fun having Mr Edwards as our teacher. We have had our first ever big write session, it was really fun and got us to structure our work more. We have been given free time to decorate them as well as getting special pens to write in it with.

In art and topic we have been learning about the Aztecs and how they lived in their war like civilization. In art we have been making gods eyes inspired by the Aztecs creativity. We learnt that the Aztecs were blood thirsty warriors. They didn't kill at war they took their enemies and sacrificed them to the Gods. They built there city in the middle of a swamp because, one day their main god told them to find an eagle perched on a cactus holding a snake in it's beak and to built a city there.

In our literacy we have been learning about different word types and what they do to a piece of writing.

Hannah: What dose it feel like to be in year 6?

Lois: I feel like I get more respect.

Hannah: What has been exciting subject so far?

Lois: Topic because it's interesting.
